Drive to the Triple Crown

Spring is in the air and the horses are already getting ready for the long and winding road to the Triple Crown with stops in Louisville, Baltimore and New York. For any road trip, you’ll need a car and when you come to watch and wager on all the action at Sports Haven and the Bradley Teletheater, you can enter to win a new Kia. It’s easy to play. On Saturday, beginning March 16, pick the horse you think will win the featured Triple Crown prep race. If you’re right, you’ll be entered for the drawing for a new car after the Belmont Stakes, June 8. The featured prep races are:

2002 Drive to the Triple Crown Rules

1) On the following designated Saturdays, customers at both Sports Haven and the Bradley Teletheater will be asked to make their selection on the designated Triple Crown prep race. The races are as follows: March 16 - Florida Derby; March 23 - Spiral Stakes, March 30, Private Terms; April 6, Santa Anita Derby; April 13 - Wood Memorial; April 20 - Lexington Stakes, April 27 - Derby Trial; May 4 - Kentucky Derby; May 18 - Preakness; June 8 - Belmont Stakes.

2) People will fill out an entry form with their name and address and the horse they think will win that day’s designated race. Entries will be deposited in boxes located in the lobbies of Sports Haven and Bradley Teletheater by 4:00 PM. People who select the winner of the designated race will be entered in the drawing for a new Kia, which will occur after the Belmont Stakes, June 8th. Forty names will be randomly selected each designated Saturday from the entries at both facilities - Sports Haven and Bradley - and they will also be entered in the drawing. On the final day of the promotion, June 8th, Belmont Stakes day, people with the Belmont Stakes winner as well as 200 randomly drawn names from each facility, - Bradley and Sports Haven - will also be entered for the drawing. (People at Sports Haven will receive a coupon from the parking lot attendant. The coupon will be redeemed in the lobby for an entry into the contest).

3) In the event that a designated race is canceled or postponed, then there will be no contest that day. The contest will resume the following week with the scheduled designated race.

4) In the event that a person selects a horse that is scratched, the person will be given the post time favorite.

5) People who select a coupled entry will get both horses in the entry. In the event of field entries, people may only select one horse.

6) Entries on Belmont Stakes day, June 8th, must be in by 3:00 PM at both Bradley and Sports Haven. Entries from Bradley will then be transported to Sports Haven where they will be combined with the entries from Sports Haven.

7) On June 8th, the winner of the Kia will be drawn after the running of the Belmont Stakes.

8) The entrant must be present to win the car, June 8, 2002 at either Bradley or Sports Haven. The drawing will be held at Sports Haven. Bradley participants will be able to hear and view the drawing at Bradley. Should the entrant, whose name was selected, not make his presence known within two minutes, another name will be selected. This procedure will continue until a winner is selected.

9) The winner of the automobile is responsible for sales tax, registration and license fee.

10) After the designated race on Saturdays at Sports Haven and Bradley Teletheater, a licensed Autotote official will pull a name from the entries. The first entry pulled at both facilities with the winner of the designated race, wins a $100 voucher.

11) People who participate in the WPLR on air promotion will have their names entered for the drawing for the new car.

12) Winners are subject to all state and federal taxes.

13) One entry per person per week.

14) No purchase necessary. (Grandstand admission to Bradley will be free for the Kentucky, Derby, Preakness and Belmont. Admission is free at Sports Haven)

15) No one under the age of 18 may enter the contest. (Connecticut State Law prohibits people under the age of 18 from entering pari-mutuel facilities).

16) Officers and employees of Autotote Corporation and its subsidiaries, Division of Special Revenue, State of Connecticut, WPLR, Barberino Brothers, Inc. and their immediate families, are not eligible to enter the contest.

17) The decision of the judges in all matters related to the contest are final.

18) The deposit of any entry form signifies the entrant’s acceptance of all rules and conditions herein.

19) All participants agree to have their name and image appear in any publicity material (posters, newsletters, programs, advertisements, etc.) and to be printed in any publication.

20) The right is reserved to terminate or modify this contest at any time without prior notice.
